Mobilitarsi per liberare gli attivisti nell'Orissa, India



È necessaria una urgente mobilitazione per salvare la vita di Amin Maharana
e liberare gli attivisti contro il trasferimento forzato nell'Orissa, India.



Il 15 agosto Dave Pugh è ritornato negli USA dopo aver trascorso tre
settimane e mezzo raccogliendo informazioni sul movimento contro il
trasferimento forzato in India.

Pugh è membro dell'Initiative Committee of the International Campaign
Against Forced Displacement (Comitato per la Campagna Internazionale contro
il Trasferimento Forzato) lanciato il 19 giugno 2008 alla Terza Assemblea
Internazionale dell'ILPS (International League of People's Struggle)
tenutasi a Hong Kong, e ha viaggiato l'India per una inchiesta per la
campagna internazionale.



Come ospite del Visthapan Virodhi Jan Vikas Andolan (VVJVA--People's
Movement

against Displacement and for Development) Pugh ha viaggiato attraverso
cinque stati del centro e dell'est dell'India visitando i siti proposti come
progetti industriali e minerari e lo sviluppo immobiliare nelle Zone
Economiche Speciali. Ha parlato con centinaia di abitanti dei villaggi che
vengono minacciati dal trasferimento e con molti attivisti che stanno dando
un aiuto nell'organizzazione della resistenza popolare.



La notte del 12 agosto, l'auto su cui stava viaggiando è stata fermata dalla
polizia con la scusa di problemi di traffico. Ma, Pugh, il suo traduttore
Protima Das, la sua guida Pradeep e il loro autista sono stati portati
presso una stazione di polizia per un interrogatorio. Nelle 8 ore seguenti
tutti sono stati interrogati, prima dal locale sovrintendente e poi dal capo
della polizia dell'Orissa, nell'India orientale. Quest'ultimo è stato
particolarmente ostile e ha accusato Pugh di essere un "agitatore
antigovernativo" e Protima e Predeep di essere dei maoisti clandestini
dell'Orissa, senza alcuna prova. Pugh è stato rilasciato presso il suo hotel
alle 4 del mattino. Le telefonate e le mail spedite da fautori delle libertà
civili, dai sostenitori del VVJVA e da amici all'estero, Pugh è riuscito a
lasciare l'Orissa senza ulteriori fastidi.



Devendar Das, membro del Consiglio Centrale del VVJVA è stato portato via da
casa sua nella stessa notte e accusato insieme a Protima e Pradeep. Devendar
Das è stato presentato alla stampa dopo essere stato costretto a salire con
la forza nella stessa auto in cui Protima e Pradeep viaggiavano con David
Pugh. In seguito Protima e Devendar Das e Pradeep sono sati accusati di
gravi crimini politici che possono sfociare in molti anni di prigione dato
l'attuale
clima repressivo dell'India. È una vergogna. Protima e Pradeep sono
colpevoli solo di essere attivi contro il trasferimento forzato e hanno
portato un amico straniero nella realtà dei villaggi indiani e a vedere
quale sarà il devastante impatto che lo "sviluppo" capitalistico avrà su
decine di milioni di persone in India nei prossimi anni. Devendar Das è un
altro noto attivista contro il trasferimento forzato nell'Orissa.



Inoltre, nella stessa notte in cui Pugh, Protima, Devendar Das e Pradeep
venivano trattenuti dalla polizia, Amin Maharana, un altro membro del
Consiglio Centrale del VVJVA e attivista contro il trasferimento forzato
nell'Orissa  è stato arrestato separatamente dalla polizia. Ma fino a questo
momento non è stato portato dalla polizia davanti ad alcun tribunale. La
vita di Amin è in grave pericolo. È diventato frequente nell'Orissa come in
altri stati vicini dove le forze maoiste sono forti, torturare gli attivisti
durante l'interrogatorio e poi ucciderli con il pretesto di uno "scontro
armato".



È per questo che è urgente per tutti i membri delle organizzazioni, i
sostenitori e gli amici dell'ILPS e tutti gli altri, organizzazioni
democratiche e singoli individui amanti della libertà, chiedere che la
polizia dell'Orissa presenti pubblicamente Maharana e che le autorità
dell'Orissa
lo rilascino.



Le false accuse contro Protima, Devendar Das e Pradeep devono essere
immediatamente ritirate e le autorità dell'Orissa si devono scusare
pubblicamente per le ingiustificate persecuzioni contro gli attivisti conto
i trasferimenti forzati.
